The Social Justice Discussion Group will meet on Friday, December 5 at 1:30 pm on Zoom to discuss reading The Age of Extraction by Tim Wu.  

Wu was one of Biden’s top antitrust advisors. This book is about how big tech went from providing a lot of useful consumer products to becoming economic oligarchs who drive inequality, anxiety and injustice. In particular, the book chronicles how companies like Google, Meta, Microsoft and others use their monopoly powers to distort the economy and worsen our lives. Concise and hopeful, The Age of Extraction offers consequential proposals for taking back control in order to achieve a better economic balance and prosperity for all. 

We will read this 200 page book in two sessions: Parts 1 & 2 on December 5 and Parts 3 & 4 on December 19.
