The next Social Justice Discussion Group gathering will be on Friday, Feb 6 at 1:30 pm on Zoom.

We will consider a novel water project in Philadelphia by reading a fascinating GEE WHIZ article called Can Mussels Save Philadelphia’s Waterways? - Inside a first-of-its-kind Philadelphia Water Department project that could transform the city’s rivers and streams forever.

This article offers an uplifting topic and exemplifies a core element of sustainability – appreciating ecosystem services. We’ll accompany this reading with some very short videos (What are ecosystem services? and Ecosystem Services in brief) and a short reading about how we can quantify their dollar value.
